The Art of Becoming: Making Room for the Woman You’re Growing Into

3 min read

There is something about the change of seasons that makes us pause.

We begin reaching for warmer layers, spending more time at home, and thinking about how we want the rest of the year to feel. Alongside those small changes, a quieter question sometimes appears:

"What am I ready to make room for?"

For me, this season has become a season of becoming. I’m learning to give time and attention to the woman I’m growing into - and to the experiences, friendships, and habits that help me feel closer to her.

That thought sits at the heart of The Gilded Club.

Let Yourself Be a Beginner

As adults, we can become accustomed to doing what we already know. We have our routines, our familiar places, and the people we feel comfortable around.

Trying something new asks a little more of us.

It might mean picking up a tennis racket for the first time, learning how to hold a golf club, or arriving at an event without knowing anyone. There is a moment before you begin when staying home feels easier.

But there is also something lovely waiting on the other side: the relief of realizing you don’t have to be good at something to enjoy it.

During our first tennis gathering and Ladies on the Links, I loved seeing women learn together. There was room for questions, laughter, and encouragement. The experience became richer because we were willing to begin.

Sometimes becoming starts with giving yourself permission to try.

Put Something on Your Calendar That Is for You

A full calendar doesn’t always mean a fulfilling one.

Between work, school, family, and everyday responsibilities, the things we look forward to can become the things we postpone. We tell ourselves we’ll make plans when life settles down.

I’m learning to make those plans while life is still happening.

An afternoon outside. A class I’ve been curious about. A beautiful meal with conversation that stretches beyond the usual updates.

Having something to look forward to gives the week a different rhythm. It creates a little space where we can arrive as ourselves, beyond the roles we carry every day.

You deserve to have those moments on your calendar, too.

Give New Friendships Somewhere to Begin

Friendship often needs a shared starting point.

A lesson gives us something to laugh about. A table gives us somewhere to linger. A new experience gives us a reason to introduce ourselves.

That is one of the reasons I care so much about the details of our gatherings. I want women to feel welcomed when they arrive and comfortable enough to join the conversation.

You don’t need to walk in with an established circle. You can come with curiosity, learn a few names, and let connection unfold at its own pace.

As we grow, there is still room for new friendships - and for people who meet us in the season we’re living now.

Choose How You Want This Season to Feel

As fall unfolds, I’m thinking less about fitting everything in and more about what deserves a place.

More movement that I enjoy. More time with people I want to know better. More willingness to experience something unfamiliar. More care for the ordinary days between the milestones.

If you’re feeling that pull toward change, you might begin with a few questions:

1) What have I been curious about but haven’t tried?

2) Who would I like to spend more time with?

3) What could I put on my calendar that I would truly look forward to?

Your answers don’t have to become a grand plan. Choose one and give it a little room.

That is my invitation for this season: let yourself begin, make the plan, and come as you are.

I look forward to meeting the woman you’re becoming.

Warmly,

Monique Stewart
